Kenya Airways Names Habil Waswani Acting Group MD and CEO

Kenya Airways has appointed Habil Waswani as Acting Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer following the resignation of Capt. Allan Kilavuka.

Waswani will assume the role on 15 September 2026 and serve on an interim basis for 30 days as the airline begins the process of recruiting a substantive Group Managing Director and CEO.

Capt. Kilavuka, who has served as the airline’s Acting Group MD and CEO since December 2025, will leave Kenya Airways on 30 September 2026.

He previously served as Chief Operating Officer for three years before taking over the top executive role. The Board thanked him for his contribution to the airline, particularly in advancing its ongoing turnaround strategy.

Waswani is a corporate and commercial legal practitioner with more than 24 years of experience. He has worked across aviation, commercial and corporate law and has held senior legal and governance roles.

He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi, a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law and is a Certified Public Secretary. He is also a member of the Law Society of Kenya and the Institute of Certified Secretaries of Kenya.

The Board said the leadership transition comes as Kenya Airways continues to focus on its turnaround, with priorities including improving operational reliability, returning to positive financial performance and strengthening the airline’s long-term sustainability.
