CNOOC Uganda Limited in partnership with the Chinese Medical Team, has successfully conducted a medical camp activity at Buhuka Health Centre III in Kikuube District Under the theme “Health and Wellness for a Better Future”, reaffirming our commitment to improving community health and well-being in our host communities.
The main objectives of the 2025 medical camp in line with our theme were to increase access to medical services, provide free medical services to the local residents, increase awareness about disease prevention, and support early detection and intervention for critical health conditions.
With over 25 medical doctors and specialists, the camp emphasized early screening and treatment of congenital heart diseases to ensure timely intervention. Various infectious diseases such as malaria, typhoid, syphilis, hepatitis B, and HIV, as well as non-communicable diseases including hypertension, diabetes, and ulcers were also treated. Maternal and child health services were also a key focus and as part of enhancing health education amongst the communities, there was continuous broadcasting of the translated sensitisation messages and preventive mechanisms on a number of diseases including Mpox malaria, cholera our health teams issued guidelines which if followed, can significantly reduce the risk of spreading the diseases.
CNOOC Uganda Limited and the Chinese Medical Team handed over medicine and medical equipments which included; hospital beds, diagnostic equipments for eyes and ears, bedside lockers, weighing scales, BP machines, fetoscope, an instrument cupboard, instrument set for IUCD, an examination torch, diagnostic equipment for clinical officers and patient screens to Buhuka Health Centre III, ensuring continued support for ongoing healthcare services. This initiative is part of a long-standing effort by CNOOC Uganda Limited, which over the past years has consistently demonstrated its commitment to improving public health and community wellness through sustained medical outreach and support programs.
The medical camp was well-received by residents, many of whom shared personal testimonies. Vanessa, a mother from Buhuka, expressed her appreciation, stating, “This camp came at the right time. I brought my child with a skin issue and we were seen by a specialist at no cost. We thank CNOOC for bringing services closer to us.” Another beneficiary Kaahwa, remarked, “Last year, I was treated for ulcers, this time it’s my wife who needed help. These medical camps save us a lot of money and give us hope.” Gerald, a local health volunteer, added, “We now know more about diseases like Malaria, cholera, dysentery and how to protect our children. The health education was so helpful.”
Speaking at the event, Mr. Hu Weijie, Vice President of CNOOC Uganda Limited, said, “We are proud to host this medical camp, which reflects our ongoing commitment to the well-being of Ugandan communities and the strengthening of China-Uganda relations. Through such initiatives, we aim to improve lives and contribute to a healthier, more prosperous future.”
Hon. Opio Vincent Alpher, Vice Chairperson LCV of Kikuube District, who represented Mr. Peter Banura, the LCV Chairman, commended CNOOC Uganda Limited for its consistent support, stating, “We are grateful to CNOOC Uganda Limited for being a dependable partner in improving healthcare in Kikuube. This medical camp has directly impacted lives and strengthened the bond between our two nations.”
Mr. Fan Xuecheng, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, also attended that the event and emphasized China’s continued support to Uganda’s development. “China remains committed to working with Uganda to improve public health and livelihoods through collaborative programs under the Belt and Road Initiative and the FOCAC Nine Programs,” he said.
