Pride Bank Achieves New Global Certification

Pride Bank Limited has secured a prestigious ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification for its Information Security Management System (ISMS).

The bank officially received the certification during a press conference held on Tuesday in Kampala. Officials say the certification shows the strong commitment to international best practices in data protection and cybersecurity.

The ISO/IEC 27001:2022 is the globally recognised standard for information security, outlining requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving an ISMS. It ensures organisations systematically manage risks to the security of information assets, covering confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

During the ceremony, Mike Kamau, Managing Director of Certi-Trust, formally handed over the certification to the Pride Bank team in the presence of executive management, staff, and partners including Sentinel Africa Consultants.

Kamau said the achievement demonstrates Pride Bank’s dedication to robust cybersecurity. He said the certification is the beginning of an ongoing journey of continuous improvement amid evolving threats, technologies, and regulations.

Veronicah Gladys Namagembe, Managing Director of Pride Bank Limited, said the institution remains committed to customer data protection.

“Achieving the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Certification is a significant milestone for Pride Bank and a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our team and partners,” she said.

“This achievement gives us confidence that our systems and controls meet internationally recognised standards, while reminding us that information security is a continuous journey. We remain committed to building customer trust and upholding the highest standards of governance as we secure the future of banking.”

Job Khan Ndyabagye, Chief Information Security Officer at Pride Bank, said: “This ISO certification is a major milestone for Pride Bank and reflects the collective effort of our Board, Management, staff, and partners. Information security is not the responsibility of one department, it is everyone’s responsibility.”

What the Certification Means for Pride Bank

For Pride Bank, a Tier II financial institution, this certification is more than a plaque on the wall. It validates that the bank’s ISMS has undergone rigorous independent assessment and complies with global standards for identifying, assessing, and managing information security risks.

This positions Pride Bank as a forward-looking player in Uganda’s competitive banking landscape, where digital transformation and cyber threats are on the rise. The certification is expected to enhance operational excellence, strengthen internal controls, and support the bank’s growth ambitions by demonstrating credibility to regulators, investors, and partners. Pride Bank will also be listed in Certi-Trust’s global certification directory, allowing international verification of its status.

The bank, which recently transitioned to Tier II status, continues to build on other achievements, including a Sustainability Standards Certification, signalling a broader commitment to responsible and resilient banking practices. For customers, the certification translates to greater peace of mind. In an era of increasing sophisticated cyber risks; including data breaches, phishing, and ransomware, Pride Bank’s adherence to ISO 27001:2022 means enhanced protection of personal and financial information.
