Stanbic Holdings Appoints Joshua Oigara CEO, Mweheire Retires

Stanbic Holdings Plc has announced a leadership transition that will take effect at the end of February 2026. Patrick Mweheire will retire as Chief Executive and Director of the Company effective 28 February 2026, concluding a tenure that began on 3 March 2020.

During his leadership, he played a central role in executing the Company’s strategic priorities, delivering consistent financial growth, and driving sustainable value creation for shareholders. He was instrumental in strengthening Stanbic Kenya’s market position and building it into a well-positioned and competitive franchise within the Standard Bank Group.

Although retiring from his role at Stanbic Holdings Plc, Mweheire will continue to serve in a senior executive capacity within the broader Standard Bank Group. The Board of Directors expressed sincere appreciation for his exemplary leadership and significant contribution to the Company, and extended best wishes for his continued success within the Group.

The Board has appointed Dr. Joshua Oigara as the incoming Chief Executive and Director of Stanbic Holdings Plc, effective 1 March 2026, subject to the necessary regulatory approvals. He currently serves as the Standard Bank Regional Chief Executive for East Africa, a role he has held since September 2025, where he oversees operations across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, South Sudan, and Ethiopia. In addition to assuming leadership of Stanbic Holdings Plc, he will continue with his regional mandate.

Dr. Oigara brings extensive experience in East Africa’s banking sector, having previously served as Chief Executive Officer of a regional bank in the region. He is recognized for his deep understanding of regional markets and his proven track record in institutional transformation, financial inclusion, and market development.

He holds an MBA with Distinction in International Business Management from Edith Cowan University in Australia and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi. He is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA-K), a member of the Kenya Institute of Bankers (KIB) and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), and a graduate of the Advanced Management Programme at the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The Board expressed strong confidence that Dr. Oigara’s leadership, regional expertise, and experience in banking transformation will position Stanbic Holdings Plc for its next phase of strategic growth and continued value creation.
