Uganda Shilling Loses Again

Uganda Shilling Loses Again

The Uganda shilling closed Tuesday 30th December 2025 at the 3615/3625 levels, 5 shillings lower compared to the opening of 3610/3620 in a quiet trade on Monday, according to the market update from Absa Bank Uganda.

According to Richard Nsubuga, the Ag. Head of Trading, the session saw balanced but thin trading activity with most of the market players on the sidelines or out for holidays. The shilling is still expected to trade within a narrow range of 3575 – 3625 in the near term.

“Money markets were liquid with the interbank overnight and one-week rates averaging at 9.17% and 9.94%, respectively. Bank of Uganda mopped up excess shilling liquidity from the money markets via the foreign exchange swap.”
