Cwinyaai lit up the UGC Kitante course with a record-equalling 63 strokes on day one—featuring an incredible nine birdies. He carried that momentum through the tournament, posting a total score of 200 over 54 holes, 16 under par, to comfortably win the Gross (amateur) category. This victory marked his third straight title and saw him finish a commanding 16 strokes ahead of runner-up, teenage sensation Anthony Otukei.
In the professional ranks, Deo Akope—also the head of the pros’ association—showed his class with a consistent performance that earned him the title. He closed with a score of 277, 11 under par, across 72 holes.
Peace Kabasweka also made her mark, carding 234 over 54 holes to claim victory in the ladies’ category, narrowly edging out Harriet Kitaka by four strokes.
The tournament concludes on 17th May 2025, with the main event—a competitive round over 18 holes involving staff from Absa Bank Uganda, including new Managing Director David Wandera, alongside Uganda Golf Club Captain Paul Charles Rukundo and Board Chair Keith Kalyegira.
The Captain’s Bell Tournament is a key fixture on Uganda’s golfing calendar, formally introducing the club captain’s leadership team to the members. This year’s edition has featured exciting competition, camaraderie, and celebration, with a prize purse of sh20 million set aside for professional golfers.
Absa Bank Uganda, the event’s title sponsor, committed sh179 million in support this year. The bank has been a consistent backer of the tournament for seven consecutive years, and continues to invest in the sport’s growth, including sponsoring Ugandan golfers to compete in prestigious events such as the Magical Kenya Open on the European Tour.
