Stanbic Uganda Holdings Limited (SUHL) has appointed Mark Ocitti Ongom as its new Chief Executive and Director of the SUHL Board, effective July 10, 2026.
The appointment, which is subject to regulatory approval, is part of a planned leadership transition within the organisation.
Ocitti joins Stanbic Uganda with close to 30 years of leadership experience across the FMCG, telecommunications and energy sectors in Uganda, East Africa and Central Africa. He currently serves as President of Sanku and has previously held senior leadership positions at East Africa Breweries Limited, Airtel Africa and Shell Uganda. He also served as non-executive Chairman of Equity Bank Uganda.
He holds a Master of Business Administration from Heriot-Watt University’s Edinburgh Business School in Scotland and a Bachelor of Statistics (Honours) degree from Makerere University. He is also an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in the United Kingdom.
The appointment follows the departure of Francis Karuhanga from the SUHL Chief Executive role. Karuhanga, who had been serving in a dual capacity as SUHL Chief Executive and Regional Chief Executive for Southern and Central Africa at Standard Bank Group, will continue in his regional role.
Stanbic Uganda Chairman Baker Magunda said Ocitti’s experience and track record make him well suited to lead the institution.
“Mark steps into this role at a pivotal time to lead Stanbic Uganda into its next chapter. We are confident in Mark’s ability to accelerate our purpose of driving Uganda and Africa’s growth. He is a seasoned executive with nearly 30 years of leadership experience across the FMCG, telecommunications and energy sectors in Uganda, East and Central Africa,” Magunda said.
He also paid tribute to Karuhanga for his leadership, saying his stewardship had left the business well-positioned for future growth.
Standard Bank Group Regional Chief Executive for East Africa, Dr Joshua Oigara, described Ocitti as an accomplished leader capable of driving the bank’s growth agenda.
“East Africa is one of the most dynamic and fast-growing regions on the continent, and Uganda is at the heart of that opportunity. Mark is an exceptional leader whose commercial acumen, strategic clarity and passion for excellence position him to help Stanbic Uganda accelerate this potential and drive continued growth and innovation,” Oigara said.
Speaking on his appointment, Ocitti said he was honoured to take on the role and pledged to build on the foundation established by his predecessor.
“What stands out most about this business is its people; talented, committed colleagues who show up every day for its clients. Francis and the team have built a strong foundation, and I look forward to working with everyone across the organisation to deliver value as we write the next chapter of this institution,” he said.
Stanbic Uganda is part of Standard Bank Group, Africa’s largest bank by assets. The bank is one of Uganda’s leading financial institutions, serving individuals, businesses and corporate clients across the country.
