Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) has secured ISO 9001:2015 certification, strengthening its bid to win more business in Uganda and the international market.
The certification means UPPC’s quality management system meets internationally recognised standards for delivering consistent and reliable services. For the corporation, the achievement comes at a time when it is working to improve its operations and compete for more business beyond its traditional government market.
“This certification demonstrates that UPPC is operating in accordance with internationally recognised quality standards. It strengthens confidence in our services and positions us to compete more effectively for opportunities both at home and in the international market,” Nangoli said.
He said the certification was an important step towards building a corporation that can compete on quality beyond Uganda.
UPPC Director Business Development Rebecca Nyakairu said the focus was not only on securing the certificate, but also on improving the way customers are served. “ISO certification is ultimately about the customer. We have strengthened our processes to deliver greater consistency, efficiency and accountability, while creating a culture of continuous improvement across UPPC,” she said.
UPPC is Uganda’s official government publisher and is responsible for printing and distributing official state information, including the Uganda Gazette, laws and other legislation. The corporation also provides commercial printing and publishing services to private companies, institutions and individuals.
UPPC traces its history to 1902, when it was established as the Government Printer under the British colonial administration. After independence in 1962, it remained under the Office of the President. The corporation was formally established under the UPPC Act, Cap 215, Section 2(2) in 1992, with a mandate to provide printing and publishing services to government, private entities and individuals.
With the ISO certification now in place, UPPC says it wants to use the improved systems and standards to strengthen its services and pursue new opportunities in the regional and international market.
